2021, THE YEAR OF THE CURL

Curls are back and we are here for it, you are sure to see them everywhere this year.

We have collated our favourite curly styles of the season.

Pixie Cut

Think the iconic 2009 Frankie Bridge cut meets the Chopstick Styler, a great way to add volume to a short cut. These pretty little curls look effortlessly stunning. "This short, close-tapered cut is timelessly sexy, and we'll definitely see more of them in the transition from winter to spring in 2021," Sturdivant-Drew for Refinery 29.

Curled Bangs

Curtain bangs are definitely the go to hair trend this season, but we are absolutely loving them curled. Whether you’re naturally curly or need the help of a curling wand they beautifully frame the face and are a different take on the 70s trend. This is also the perfect way for you to try a shorter fringe without braving the cut as the curls naturally bounce up. "We will see more curly girls embrace the '70s trend with bangs and shorter face framing pieces that really enhance the shape of their natural curls," Marjan for InStyle.

Highlighted Curls

Highlights throughout your curls add beautiful depth and dimension to your hair. Its great if you want to try going lighter or want a lower maintenance colour option as its not to the root so the colour grows out more smoothly. “Natural roots and blonde highlights look great on a lot of different hair types, but a golden-blonde balayage looks particularly amazing on curls” Brooke Shunatona for Cosmopolitan.

Natural Textures

2021 is the year of embracing natural textures and accentuating your curls. Whether this is wearing your hair down or using it as a base for an updo, curls and texture are your best friend this season.  “If there's one thing quarantine taught our beauty routines, it's that less is always more. Ditch the styling tools and "embrace your natural curls and texture." Curls create a great foundation for pretty updos that can be achieved with some clips and bobby pins” Chris Appleton for Elle.

Layers

Layered curls are going to be a big trend in 2021, it’s the perfect way to add even more volume to your hair. The retro shag is a very low maintenance style that is perfect if you love volume. "It's especially good for adding extra dimension to longer and mid-length hair, that way you can toss your hair up and have some hair falling from the sides. Another plus is that "shorter layers throughout allow you to create tons of volume," Sal for Glamour Magazine.
